Objective:
The objective of the Museum of Haywood County History is to preserve and interpret the stories, artifacts, and landscape of Haywood County and its communities, while preserving the contributions of the Shook and Smathers families.
Acquiring and Accessioning Goals and Procedures:
- Objects acquired by MHCH are subject to a review process by a museum committee sub-committee. This committee consists of three members of the museum committee.
- Once approved by the sub-committee, the transfer of objects into the collection is documented, with rights and limitations stated in the Deed of Gift.
Objects being considered for acquisition must meet one or more of the criteria established:
- Be of local manufacture, or of use by persons connected to Haywood County
- Be connected to the history of Haywood County
- Be connected to the Shook or Smathers families
- Fill in a gap in the collection
- Be useful for research or demonstration
