How can the DAR help with your historical research?
Many of the DAR Chapters keep historic records about events related to the area in which they are located. However, most records are kept at the DAR Library located within the DAR Headquarters at 1776 D Street NW, Washington, DC 20006. The Library was founded in 1896 as a collection of genealogical and historical publications for the use of staff genealogists. Shortly after 1900, the continually growing collection was opened to the public and has remained so ever since. The Library’s book collection exceeds 225,000 volumes adding approximately 3,000 new titles each year. The microform holdings of the Library’s Seimes Technology Center number over 53,000 items. The focus of the Center’s collection is on Revolutionary War records of the federal and state governments and collections of land and court records from various states. The Library resources are free to all visitors.
The DAR Library has an Online Catalog that includes records of all of the Library’s published materials, File Collection, Manuscript Collection and other Special Collections. If you are unable to visit the Library in person, researchers can contact the DAR Library Search and Copy Services for assistance.
